When Bruce Timm & Paul Dini created their great character Harley Quinn in the Batman Animated Series, I guess they had no idea that one day not only make the jump into the comic book Batman world, but become one of the most popular characters around. And it began quite the trend. Over the years we've seen such characters as Smallville's Chloe Sullivan and Lionel Luthor  make the same jump, and most recently Marvel has brought Phil Coulson and his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. team into their comic universe, as well as Morph from the 90's X-Men animated series. And the Green Arrow comics have also brought the characters John Diggle and Felicity Smoak into the mix (even though Felicity WAS already a character, the New 52 version is now based on the Emily Bett Rikards character from the Arrow tv show). Wonder-Woman-044When we think International Women's Day (or simply "women's day"), we think of it as a March holiday honoring the women in our lives whether it be family members, friends, co-workers, etc. For us genre fans, women's day is more than just that as it is also our way of celebrating our love for our favorite female characters from fiction (especially the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror kinds of fiction), whether it be film, television, comic books, novels, or even video games. There is no doubt that throughout the history of storytelling, the world has been introduced to a huge variety of beloved female characters from fiction, not just heroines but also villainesses (no offense). Savage_Hulk_Vol_1_1_TextlessA few weeks ago, I started the countdown to the release of The Avengers: The Age of Ultron with a review on Iron Man (Vol. 1) No. 300 as an attempt to give Avengers member Iron Man his review feature spotlight at ENR. Yes, I had lots of fun doing that review while attempting to get readers excited about the upcoming Marvel Studios film, and as the countdown to the movie itself continues, I decide to give another Avengers member his review spotlight at ENR. This time, we focus our attention on another favorite of mine: the green friendly lonely giant we come to know as the Hulk. Although I never usually read a Hulk-centric comic book stories, Hulk was a kind of Marvel character I can never resist seeing on film and television, and I guess what makes the character so appealing for long (both in comic book medium and outside it) are not only his battles with superpowered tyrants, but also his struggles to find happiness in a world dominated by humans who fear him despite his desire to find a cure for his transformation and being an Avenger himself.
