Earlier in the year, I got the chance to cover a big press event at the world famous Bell Center arena announcing that Marvel Universe Live was coming to my hometown of Montreal and it was a huge deal! Not only was I asked (on behalf of eXpertComics) to give my opinion on the show on Montreal’s local CTV News offiliate, but I also got exclusive presale tickets to the show. Pretty snazzy. In 2005, 20th Century Fox took a stab at making a live-action film based on the first family of Marvel Comics, the Fantastic Four, while the movie made money and Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis had great performances, it wasn’t the film that fans had hoped for. Two years later, a sequel was made and not even the presence of the Silver Surfer could have saved that film. Years later a reboot of the popular foursome was announced with Josh Trank, director of the unexpected hit Chronicle, in the director’s chair and a cast full of young and capable actors. Needless to say, fans were intrigued and excited. Would the third time be the charm for this franchise? To be honest, HELL NO. This movie is boring, poorly paced, overly dark for no reason, and contains a climax that’s out of place and just plain puzzling. Read more...

Well. Here we are. Some of us thought this would happen. Some hoped it would. Others really don’t care one way or another. But we choose to ignore those jerks. Fox’s latest Fantastic Four reboot has crashed and burned faster than Johnny Storm in issue #587. Personally, there’s a part of me that really feels sorry for a lot of the actors and crew involved that likely worked their asses off to try to make a cool movie. Nobody thinks of them when making fun of these movies that don’t do well. I also found it a sad state of affairs when “internet buzz” flops a movie before its release. Something about it doesn’t seem fair. When did Rotten Tomatoes start to run our lives and make our opinion for us? Read more...

Gotham Academy is a book unlike any other in the Batman themed books. It's playful, energetic and cartoony...and at first glance it may not look like a book a guy in his 30's would read. But I gave it a try, just to try something different. And I was instantly hooked. Sure it was a book starring a bunch of teenagers, but the feel of the book worked like nothing else I've read. It was a mystery comic set in the Batman universe, and many Batman characters were featured, but the new characters like the mysterious Olive Silverlock and the lovable Maps hooked me and I became a fan. I needed to see what would happen next!!! Read more...

It was ComicCon time in my hometown of Montreal once again and it was the biggest event ever! More than 50,000 fans came out to let their geek flag fly and it was once again an exciting show! Much more space, more vendors a bigger Artists Alley and an awesome atmosphere that for the first time I saw many celebs like John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow), Michael Rooker (of Guardians of the Galaxy and Walking Dead) and more walking the con floor and taking in the show (I myself had some fun moments with the celebs, more on that later). I of course had my adventures taking pics of the thousands of fun cosplays this year and yet again, it's time for my Annual Cosplay Parade!  Read more...

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court made a huge leap towards equality for LGBT couples and declared same sex marriage legal in all states nationwide. This is a big deal for many and a fresh, new step forward for civil rights in the United States! Comics have for quite some time been a very strong leader in terms of presenting strong and believable LGBT characters. As far back as I could remember they have been represented in some way (even with some thick headed and ridiculous restrictions in place by the Comics Code Authority). Read more...
