What’s the definition of a hero? Well, if you look it up, the official definition is: a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Does that define Jim Starlin’s power hungry, Death worshipping character, Thanos? Not exactly. Not normally...but in Starlin’s trilogy of graphic novels (also, the Thanos vs. Hulk miniseries coupled in there), here we have a character that has forever been portrayed as tyrannically mad, finding himself in the role of savior of the universe as we know it! Previously on “Agents of HIVE”: This Neo dressing prettyboy ancient Inhuman cultist guy is going WAY TOO FAR! Hive (who is inside the dead body of Grant Ward) has the abilities to infect his fellow Inhumans and making them become his loyal minions. He has done so to the nearest and dearest S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and the main heroine of the show: Daisy “Quake” Johnson! Last week we found out he also voodoo’d James (and they exposed him to Terrigen, giving him the powers of his comic book counterpart, Hellfire), as well as the redhead femme fatale who can duplicate herself (like Jamie Madrox), Alicia. Daisy brought Hive the Kree orb that James gave S.H.I.E.L.D., but Hive immediately knew there was a piece missing. James buried that piece under his trailer, but when Coulson and May arrived, they set a bomb! Coulson was fine though...because he had an ENERGY SHIELD built into his cybernetic hand. It was awesome, and it was a clear nod to Captain America: Civil War. Another silent nod to the movie would come as Glenn Talbot contacted Coulson to tell him that Gideon Malick (who Daisy exploded two weeks back) gave up enough intel for the government to raid all of the straggling Hydra facilities, possibly crippling the terrorist organization for good (but probably not). I get the feeling the new Marvel movie (in theaters NOW, go see it!) will take over from there. Read more...

In 1972 the Brady Kids made another kind of history. The bell bottomed family of America hosted a primetime special on Friday night advertising the Saturday morning cartoon lineup on ABC and started an annual tradition. While this had been done in 1968 and 69, by NBC and CBS, and hosted by Family Affair and The Banana Splitz it was the Brady numbers that cemented a tradition which spread to every network annually. Previously on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Ward is back! Nah, not really. His dead body has been possessed by an exiled Inhuman named Hive from the blue planet (known to be called Maveth). Now in the custody (or staying as a house guest actually) of Hydra, Hive is now eating raw meat like a zombie and has the ability to shoot spores of some kind at people. But he’s fun at parties, I imagine! Read more...

The Marvel Universe is at a crossroads. A new power has emerged, one that can predict the future—for good or ill— and the heroes of the Marvel Universe are faced with a choice: Wield the power of “predictive justice” to change the future as they see fit, or reject it and allow tomorrow to unfold unaltered. Well, NOW are we excited? Those of us in the “geek community” got a huge reveal this week as we FINALLY got a peep at Tom Holland as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man this week! And while there was a bit of the inevitable negativity among some (mostly about the slight changes to Spidey’s classic costume), generally people everywhere are excited for this movie and to see the wall-crawler back home! I just this week finished the final chapter of Marvel’s Secret Wars event, which ended an era for the Marvel Universe and opened a new one, an ALL-NEW ALL DIFFERENT one. I’m a lifelong Marvel Comics reader...and no matter what they do to their characters and stories, I’m going to remain that way. After all is said and done, I’m a lifer. And boy, are things different than just 10 years ago. Some good changes, some bad ones...but evolution has always been a key element to Marvel and its characters.  Change isn’t a bad thing. But now, in the Marvel Movie Era, the movies now impact those changes. Read more...
