It has been a long time since I have sat down to write a Title Fight piece for you all. It is always a special honor to do so because it was something I named and my late great friend (and fellow columnist) Mike Ramirez made great. The MiXX originale if you will. As such there is a high standard and large footsteps to fill for me. I always try to wait until I get read two JUGGERNAUT books at the same time. It is a rare occurrence but have I got a treat for you. The contenders are in their trunks, the water bottles with the bendy straws are primed and each book is a beast to be unleashed. This slobberknocker is ready to begin. One is the POWERHOUSE, Batman/Superman Annual #2 and the other is the SVELTE and SLY Tooth and Claw #5. Each come armed to the teeth with big name talent. One book enters, one book walks away in shame. Read more...

OK, the columnists at ENR would be a bunch of liars if none us admitted that there was only one game we’re excited about this year… Mortal Kombat X. You thought I was going to say Arkham Knight, didn’t you? As much as we’re hyped up for Batman, nothing makes our news desks hum with anticipation more than the promise of Dave Michaels and I being able to rip out each other’s spleen, break our journalistic jaws and spear each other with rusty, metal chains while shouting “GET OVER HERE!” And believe us; C-Man likes nothing more than to see his news team happy… The last month has brought us many, many reveals for Mortal Kombat X. So far, this game readily boasts one of the largest playable casts of any beat ‘em-up ever made as well as a triad of fighting styles for each character which effectively trebles the already impressive array of options and play-styles already available. sollicitations-DC-juin-12Well, the big buzz this week in comics was the announcement that after their next big event, Convergence, DC Comics is going to be making some BIG aesthetic changes to some of their most popular characters. And I'm talking BIG. HUGE. MEGA. SHOCKING...freakin' weird....CHANGES! Didn't they already DO this like not 4 years ago?! YES! THEY DID! TOTALLY! Is rebooting trendy? YES! IT IS! TOTALLY! Do they need to keep doing this every few years to maintain sales and stay relevant and keep columnists and bloggers like myself talking about them? THEY OBVIOUSLY THINK SO! And I can't help but give them exactly what they want. Because some of these costumes are so freaking drastic that I just can't stay silent anymore. I'm gonna stop and give my thoughts on all of the announced revamps that are happening post-Convergence. It's time, DC. Let's have a chat, bro. Read more...

ladies-600x420Happy International Women's Day everyone! I have to say, I love recognizing this important day every year because, well, women are awesome! And the strongest people that I value the most in my life...happen to be women! And that needs to be celebrated, not just on IWD, but EVERY day. So, like last year, I will do one of my lovely lists and this time, truly focus on GIRL POWER. Scary, extinction-level girl power! Today, I will count down the most powerful female heroes in comics. And to narrow it down and not just put up a bunch of cosmic-powered characters from the 90's nobody has ever heard of...I'm focusing on HEROINES ONLY. And let's be honest here, I know that I can't possibly put this list in an order that everyone is going to agree with, so keep the complaints to a minimum and let's celebrate ALL of these awesome, empowering characters! So keep it down, trolls! Especially you, Pip! Read more...

51G3U3NDO6L._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_ Superman Earth One Volume 3 Written by: J. Michael Straczynski Pencils by: Ardian Syaf Inks by: Sandra Hope Colours by: Barbara Ciardo Letters by: Rob Leigh Published by: DC Comics DC’s Earth One line has been received with mixed reviews, not least by newer audiences who may have struggled to see why the books should exist being published so closely after the inception and launch of the New 52. Analyzing the New 52 is a whole different beast (and not something I want to get bogged down with in this review) but I will say that the Earth One titles speak much more to me on terms of a relaunch of DC’s established titles. The New 52 in itself, while developing some excellent and alternative storylines and origins, had an unbalanced opening – not all characters started from scratch, there were weird continuity issues, etc – whereas Earth One offers us a glimpse at our favourite heroes reborn in the present era with modern conflicts and sensibilities.  Way back in the stone age of 1982 a little rock group (hard rock group) called Van Halen put out an album called Diver Down which had a cover of the Kinks song "Where Have All The Good Times Gone". The Kinks put it on a B-side (if you don't know what that is Google it, if you do, then you know it didn't fair well). None the less it ha become an anthem whether by the Kinks or Van Halen and it truly fits the mood I am in as I write this.   Read more...

When people think Valentine's Day, the one word that comes into mind is "romance" or even "love". Anyway, I am not a fan of romance genre of any entertainment medium. Nor am I the kind of person to celebrate Valentine's Day except for the part where I like to eat Valentine's candies (as long as they are nut free of course). But since Valentine's Day is nearing, I decided to present a fun feature to coincide with the countdown to this special love day. Over the years, both comic books and animation have featured a huge variety of love couples, whether it be married couples or premarital ones. As I look back, thinking about which few are the best to appear in comics and cartoons up to date is not an easy task, but through examining the characteristics that make each special, I manage to build a small list of the best love couples comics and cartoons have to feature. 1) Lupin III and Fujiko Mine1) Arsene "The Wolf" Lupin III and Fujiko Mine (Lupin III) This love couple is indeed a funny one. While the gentleman thief Arsene Lupin III is the kind of guy who will do anything the woman in his heart, Fujiko Mine often plays the gal putting the man of her affections (and his heist partners gunman Daisuke Jigen and swordsman Goemon Ishikawa XIII) in danger in attempt to accomplish heist goals (including ones to defeat a particular enemy). Luckily for Fujiko, the thrills of heist and danger are what keep she and Lupin a couple that never ceases to amaze each other, not even throughout many years worth of animated adventures.
