It was ComicCon time in my hometown of Montreal once again and it was the biggest event ever! More than 50,000 fans came out to let their geek flag fly and it was once again an exciting show! Much more space, more vendors a bigger Artists Alley and an awesome atmosphere that for the first time I saw many celebs like John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow), Michael Rooker (of Guardians of the Galaxy and Walking Dead) and more walking the con floor and taking in the show (I myself had some fun moments with the celebs, more on that later). I of course had my adventures taking pics of the thousands of fun cosplays this year and yet again, it's time for my Annual Cosplay Parade!  Read more...

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court made a huge leap towards equality for LGBT couples and declared same sex marriage legal in all states nationwide. This is a big deal for many and a fresh, new step forward for civil rights in the United States! Comics have for quite some time been a very strong leader in terms of presenting strong and believable LGBT characters. As far back as I could remember they have been represented in some way (even with some thick headed and ridiculous restrictions in place by the Comics Code Authority). Read more...

18 Minutes of moral morass… Whether you like DC Comics’ direction in their books, film or animation they seem to be all in. Which direction is that you ask? Why the continued darkening of their Universe and the transition to blurred lines in what defines a hero. With films like Man of Steel, the New 52 reboot of 2011 (and now Convergence) it seems the more flawed the hero, the better for DC and its parent company Warner Bros. On July 28th the latest installment of the DC Animated Universe will get an ElseWorlds (alternate Universe) treatment and the chance to inject bleak darkness into another version of this Universe was too great to pass up. Even for Bruce Timm. The revered and yet recently departed (creative differences) creator of Batman TAS has returned to the DCAU with this coming film. While TAS might be the greatest cartoon of all time, it is safe to say that despite towing the company line and touting this work, Gods and Monsters is not the traditional fare he respected so highly. But while this is an alternate world (for which I am so grateful) it is an opportunity to rationalize poor decisions, glorify the darkness and up the violence level another notch on the “get the gamer audience” belt. How do I know this when the film isn’t released? Read more...

After years of teasing, political pundits, comedians and just generally EVERYONE that doesn’t take American politics seriously at all got the announcement they’ve been clamoring for: Donald Trump is running for United States President! And it was EXACTLY the media circus you’d expect it to be. It had racially bigoted comments...talks of building great walls (gold plated, I assume), bragging about riches, bragging about selling real estate...bragging about everything. There was Milania, Ivanka...Oprah (not really, but Trump wants to run with Oprah as his running mate...because Oprah apparently NEEDS to run for political office for some reason). There was Neil Young’s “Keep On Rockin’ In The Free World” blaring in the background (without Neil Young’s permission). I know Trump already believes he’s a gift from the Gods, but I actually think he is! From the Comedy Gods, anyway. Read more...

There are many iconic images that stretch back through Batman lore and we each have our own favourite pieces. For some, it could be the Dark Knight illuminated by a lightning bolt from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. For others, it could be the Joker wielding his Joker Fish from Detective Comics #475, Catwoman and Batman embracing in Hush, and some may cite the Bat Armour from the epic Night of the Owls. For me though, the full page spread of Batman broken across Bane’s immense knee is one of the most evocative and ultimately chilling images in all of the Caped Crusader’s adventures. Read more...

Batman's arch-nemesis The Joker has been around in comics since his debut in 1940. Many of us have known him for his sense of humor, his insane mind, and of course his cold-blooded violent ways, although he was not that cold-blooded in the 1960s. The clown prince of crime himself had many memorable battles with the Dark Knight in not only comics, but also television and film, but no matter how many times he gets defeated, he always manages to come back for another ploy.
