Well, it’s Valentine’s Day (or Valentine’s week or month for some...why have bounderies?), the time when lovers love and secret admirers let their feelings be known! And single people? Well, I guess they all deal with this day differently! The most important thing, whether you believe in celebrating V-Day or not, is that you appreciate your special someone all year around! And for those of us bleeding hearts that bleed comics as well, we get our #relationshipgoals from our heroes and their perfect/not-so perfect relationships! So, I figured what better way to toot St. Valentine’s horn by firing up the ‘ol Listmaster 5000 machine and do one of my old fashioned lists! This time it’s comics’ Top 10 Power Couples! Some are superheroes with non-superheroes, and some of them are both supers...but all of these sweethearts showed us that their true powers are their love for each other (awwww)! Read more...

Legacy in comics is important. Legacy in all epic fictional sagas is VERY important. Just look at the response of Star Wars: The Force Awakens compared to let’s say...the new Ghostbusters remake so far. Force Awakens was all about continuing the story we all grew up with, at the same time as adding an excellent cast of new and exciting 2nd generation characters that will keep the adventures in a galaxy far, far away going strong. Ghostbusters is a whole new reboot of a story that many feel is a cheap remake of a movie that still to this day holds up for many of us. If they were to make this movie with the all-female cast of new characters that are the daughters or protégées of the original Ghostbusters, well, I bet more fans would enjoy that. Read more...

There is a time in every series where the rules change and a show becomes something completely different then what it was. But there is also a time in every season where the creators want you to think the fundamental change has arrived in order to swerve the viewer for the sake of entertaining them. The problem I am now faced with as your weekly guide through Arrow season 4 is that with show it happens a few times each season and frankly, it is easy to be cynical and still get swerved. Oh yeah! It’s that time of year once again! Wrestlemania season! That time of the year when almost everyone (or at least more people that you think) get together and watch the 4 hour extravaganza involving big muscley men and women (and sometimes a zombie or a leprechaun or a voodoo priest) wearing outlandish tight outfits and getting in the ring in front of thousands of people for a fight that’s not really a fight...but still very treacherous nonetheless. Of all the shows in the DCTVU, it is the template for them all that makes me the most frustrated to date. Sure it could be from the fact it has run the longest or that it had the hardest time finding its voice but more likely still what vexes me about Arrow is what ultimately makes it great. When Arrow experiments, or more importantly, clings to its own rules, it creates waves of aww and gasp but also the knowledge I don’t get my way as a viewer all the time. Read more...

For three seasons Arrow was a very dark vigilante crime drama full of bleak Nihilism and little hope. But for 14 episodes, Oliver’s commitment to the light and hope of a hero has yielded new and fantastic results for his new life. But in his failures, since the dawn of the show’s first season, comes his hardest lessons. Now his earliest flaw of keeping secrets could change everything for the season’s direction as episode 15 “Taken” resets the Arrow Template that has been used to build so many successful shows since. In what has been the best season of Arrow to date we have come a long way since the idyllic domestic life that Felicity and Ollie had made for themselves in the opener. In just 12 episodes prior to the latest installment we have seen Oliver and the gang put into practice the difficult lessons of trust and dependence on friends, forgiveness and redemption – not to mention a dirty battle with Damien Dahrk that has had more intrigue than an episode of House of Cards. The unnamed team members have been named and the new lighter tone for Arrow is working. Read more...
