After 4 seasons the Christmas Cliffhanger has become a staple on Arrow. In each of the past three seasons it is the Christmas episode events that have sown the seeds for the rest of the season. Wreck the Malls with gosh and golly! It is the season for giving and the creative team of The Flash has been giving us gifts all year long. From Jay Garrick to Gorilla Grodd, Killer Shark to Atom Smasher the hits keep coming and the benefactor is the viewer every week. Yesterday we discussed the first episode in the second annual Flash/Arrow crossover event. We touched on the launching of a new show Legends of Tomorrow featuring the characters Vandal Savage, Hawkgirl and Hawkman – who debuted in the crossover episode named Legends of Today. That episode was a superhero team-up throw down show of historical proportions and we left a lot of the deeper explorations of theme and device on the side to celebrate this great event. Read more...

We have examined running parallels between Arrow and Flash, we have discussed themes of trust and family and we have even talked about how this show is the perfect vehicle to setup and launch Legends of Tomorrow in 2016. Starting the second story arc of the season seems to be a place where a lot of shows struggle to regain momentum and keep interest alive in their series during the buildup to the holiday season. A plethora of new shows and episodes of shows already hits stretch the airwaves and if you miss a beat between now and the mid-season hiatus then real drop off in ratings and internet buzz could leave a show drowning like Constantine – which was a fantastic show with so many other problems including a Friday night timeslot and a disinterested network – but also a stall in the mid-season action made it easy to forget in a buffet of geektastic television programming.
