Oh yeah! It’s that time of year once again! Wrestlemania season! That time of the year when almost everyone (or at least more people that you think) get together and watch the 4 hour extravaganza involving big muscley men and women (and sometimes a zombie or a leprechaun or a voodoo priest) wearing outlandish tight outfits and getting in the ring in front of thousands of people for a fight that’s not really a fight...but still very treacherous nonetheless. ladies-600x420Happy International Women's Day everyone! I have to say, I love recognizing this important day every year because, well, women are awesome! And the strongest people that I value the most in my life...happen to be women! And that needs to be celebrated, not just on IWD, but EVERY day. So, like last year, I will do one of my lovely lists and this time, truly focus on GIRL POWER. Scary, extinction-level girl power! Today, I will count down the most powerful female heroes in comics. And to narrow it down and not just put up a bunch of cosmic-powered characters from the 90's nobody has ever heard of...I'm focusing on HEROINES ONLY. And let's be honest here, I know that I can't possibly put this list in an order that everyone is going to agree with, so keep the complaints to a minimum and let's celebrate ALL of these awesome, empowering characters! So keep it down, trolls! Especially you, Pip! Read more...

Brian PulidoIt's not often I get to speak to a comic book legend and someone who has made his/her mark on the comics industry and changed things, but at Montreal ComicCon...well, anything can happen! And I got my chance to meet and interview one of the most innovative comic book writers in recent memory. Brian Pulido is a bit different than most comic book creators. Instead of making his name by writing comics about other people's characters, which was most common in 90's, Pulido created his own comics universe from scratch, came up with his own menagerie of wild characters like Lady Death, Evil Ernie and Purgatori, and tapped into the combined horror and heavy metal market like nobody else in comics history. Chaos! Comics in its 9 year run as a publisher, took sexyness, gore and violence to the next level and began a whole new era of edgy, indie comic books in a "Comics Code Authority" oriented industry, and helped usher in a new age of comics for grownups. And adult readers ate it up! Read more...

These days there are not only tons of horror themed comics on the shelves, but there are literally tons of different types of them! Gore, anthology, vampires, zombie apocalypse, vampiric history, vampire apocalypse, apocalyptic apocalypse....Crossed (which I’m having a tough time finding a classification for other than bats#!t crazy apocalypse) ...well, there’s a lot. So, I’ve decided to lay down a 2 part list of the top horror comics of all time! Allow me to be your “Crypt Keeper” for an evening and let’s take “bleeding comics” to a whole new level! Read more...

Shuffle Track #14 VIXENS. FEMME FATALES. MINXES. THE LADIES THAT MAKE LIFE WORTH LIVING.  There’s something alluring about a woman who can handle herself, whether she’s an ass-kicking superhero or an undead sorceress of unimaginable power. In a world dominated by domineering dudes it’s refreshing to take a long look at the ladies who keep pace. There’s an old saying about how well-behaved woman rarely make history. Well I’m not sure if that’s completely true, but this week’s entries in the 3P definitely make a strong case. Saddle up ladies (and gents) it’s a WICKEDLY WOMANLICIOUS TRIPLE PLAY! You’re in the MIXX! Read more...

Hey, Montreal area Bleederz! It’s almost here! Next week, April 4th, The Heroes Of The North will be AT the eXpertComics store signing ADVANCE copies of their very first print comic, Heroes Of The North: Dark Origins! Don’t forget to pass by and get your hands on an exclusive signed copy of the comic and meet some real live Canadian superheroes! I myself have got my hands on a super TOP SECRET copy of the comic and fans of the webseries won’t wanna miss this! (you guys had no idea how many Medusa agents I had to take out to get my hands on this!)  Here I give the Bleeder Nation an exclusive preview of what’s in store!  Dark Origins features six stories that expand the HOTN universe and give us untold secret origins of the characters. The first of these stories shows Alpha Q being approached by a big Hollywood producer that is interested in making a big budget Hollywood movie based on Heroes of the North, but when Alpha and HOTN's urban vigilante badass 8-Ball go to the premiere, they never would have guessed how Hollywood would interpret Canada’s own superhero team!  Writer Yann Brouillette (who also portrays Alpha Q in the web-series), had a blast poking fun at the corniest Canadian stereotypes and how Hollywood loves to ruin our favorite comic books when they adapt them to the big screen. The next story is entitled “Blooming” and is quite a different tone. It spotlights Fleur-De-Lys and depicts her sad and disturbing past. Coming from an abusive household, this tale shows how young Natalie De Vercheres rose above it all and became a super-heroine...and how her brothers took a very different route and became terrorists. It’s the story of Quebec’s first superhero, and she’s quite electrifying!        Next up is the origin of Pacifica, an Olympic-level athlete who discovered while she was testing new high-tech training equipment that she could use it to become Canada’s own speedster who’s as fast as she is beautiful! This character is yet to be introduced in live-action, so the Dark Origins One-shot is our first chance to see Pacifica in action! Next is (my personal favorite character. *ahem*) The Hornet! This chapter illustrated by Mas shows how the buxom, beautiful and dangerous Medusa hitwoman came to beeee! (See what I did there? I kill me!) She was raised to be a emotionless killer, but there’s much more to it and this one has a pretty awesome surprise ending that nobody will see coming in a million years!   Black Terror is featured next in a story that tells the origin of the loose-cannon, berserker member of HOTN. Once an innocent scientist, Bob Benton’s life was forever changed when his lab is attacked by a group of Medusa henchmen. Benton may seem like a drug-addicted super-criminal at first glance, but his story in Dark Origins humanizes him and may change your opinion of the man known as Black Terror. He’s a true anti-hero, and nobody gets in his way when he’s on a mission or needs a fix. Um. Just say no, kids! The final story in Dark Origins features the origin of Madame Doom, a drug-trafficking “Queenpin”, who was once a beautiful supermodel. When she tries to get revenge on her little sister for conspiring against her, a tragic accident occurs that scars her world-famous face forever, causing her to dawn an eerie mask. She becomes one of the most vicious antagonists in the Heroes of the North Universe, and like most villains her background is as tragic as it is ironic.     Whether their origin is filled with humour or tragedy, triumph or heart-ache, all of the characters in the Heroes of The North each have interesting and well conceived back stories and the gang at Movie Seals put their hearts and souls into bringing us them on the page and in live-action...and I got to see it first-hand! At the end of last year, I got a chance to do a 2 day set visit of HOTN, where I got to meet the cast and crew of the web-series! Coming soon I will give an exclusive behind-the-scenes chronicle with interviews and pictures (I even got to hold guns!) and much more....MUCH MORE. I promise there’s nothing involving me wearing tight laytex. Stay tuned to this, guys! It will be the most fun article I’ve ever done. And don’t forget to meet The Heroes in person at the gorgeous eXpertComics store  THIS SATURDAY!   That’s all for this week, Bleeder Nation...tune in next week when I celebrate 20 years of Brian Pulido’s Lady Death with a retrospective of the BAD GIRLS of Comics! Of course, The Bleeder will be all over that! Don’t miss it! Remember, if ya gonna bleed, BLEED COMICS!   Read more...
