So, I am an 80’s kid. And that decade had a lot of different things going on, right? He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the collapse of the Berlin wall, Back To The Future, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, neon clothes, Hulk Hogan...just to name a few things. Something else happened. Specifically to music. Hip Hop became the most popular music genre on the entire planet. And one specific group was essential in enhancing the popularity of the genre. Run DMC, a trio from Hollis, Queens, New York consisting of Joseph “Run” Simmons, Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. My first exposure to this legendary group (and possibly Hip Hop in general), was the music video for Aerosmith’s Walk This Way, which featured Run DMC on the track. Immediately, when you saw these three guys in their all black clothes, signature fedora hats, gold chains and shell-toed ADIDAS sneakers (without the laces)...you automatically knew they were the coolest dudes around. There wasn’t a question about it. And right from the get-go you knew that these guys wanted to make Rap a powerhouse genre in music, side-by-side with Rock & Roll and Punk. And they achieved that. They weren’t just Kings of Rap...they were the Kings of Rock. And you HAD to respect that. “It’s like that, and that’s the way it is.” Read more...

What’s the definition of a hero? Well, if you look it up, the official definition is: a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Does that define Jim Starlin’s power hungry, Death worshipping character, Thanos? Not exactly. Not normally...but in Starlin’s trilogy of graphic novels (also, the Thanos vs. Hulk miniseries coupled in there), here we have a character that has forever been portrayed as tyrannically mad, finding himself in the role of savior of the universe as we know it! Sometimes I think it’s not even right for me to write reviews on Marvel Studios’ movies. What can I say? I’ve never received one paycheck from the company, and I feel something of a “company man”. I’ve grown up adoring the Marvel Universe and its characters. You can’t look in any direction in my house and not see some kind of Marvel merchandise. But for Captain America: Civil War, I just can’t sit here and not speak about the movie. It’s not even a movie to me at this point. After seeing it I can only call it a materialisation of everything I love about comic book superheroes, specifically Marvel’s brand of heroes. Read more...

Previously on “Agents of HIVE”: This Neo dressing prettyboy ancient Inhuman cultist guy is going WAY TOO FAR! Hive (who is inside the dead body of Grant Ward) has the abilities to infect his fellow Inhumans and making them become his loyal minions. He has done so to the nearest and dearest S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and the main heroine of the show: Daisy “Quake” Johnson! Last week we found out he also voodoo’d James (and they exposed him to Terrigen, giving him the powers of his comic book counterpart, Hellfire), as well as the redhead femme fatale who can duplicate herself (like Jamie Madrox), Alicia. Daisy brought Hive the Kree orb that James gave S.H.I.E.L.D., but Hive immediately knew there was a piece missing. James buried that piece under his trailer, but when Coulson and May arrived, they set a bomb! Coulson was fine though...because he had an ENERGY SHIELD built into his cybernetic hand. It was awesome, and it was a clear nod to Captain America: Civil War. Another silent nod to the movie would come as Glenn Talbot contacted Coulson to tell him that Gideon Malick (who Daisy exploded two weeks back) gave up enough intel for the government to raid all of the straggling Hydra facilities, possibly crippling the terrorist organization for good (but probably not). I get the feeling the new Marvel movie (in theaters NOW, go see it!) will take over from there. Read more...

Previously on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: A new Inhuman was discovered named Charles Hinton with the unique power to make himself and anyone he touches see horrible futuristic visions of death. Sometimes their own, sometimes it’s someone they know. Once a family man, poor Charles chose the life of a vagabond. Trying to save him from being abducted by Hydra, Daisy Johnson touches Charles and sees several visions of herself and her teammates in dire straits, specifically Lincoln seemingly suffering from a bloody head wound and Director Coulson shooting Daisy! Not knowing how or when these events will occur, Daisy and the S.H.I.E.L.D. team try to figure out how to save Hinton from Hydra at the same time as not allowing the premonitions to pass.
