Oh yeah! It’s that time of year once again! Wrestlemania season! That time of the year when almost everyone (or at least more people that you think) get together and watch the 4 hour extravaganza involving big muscley men and women (and sometimes a zombie or a leprechaun or a voodoo priest) wearing outlandish tight outfits and getting in the ring in front of thousands of people for a fight that’s not really a fight...but still very treacherous nonetheless. Well, I guess by now the cat’s out of the bag! We are definitely getting a sequel to the hottest superhero movie so far of 2016, Deadpool! And not only that, in the end-credits scene Deadpool himself informs us that his cyborg from the future BFF Cable will appear in the sequel! If that didn’t make us all “squee”, nothing will! free-comicWelcome eXPress legions, DAMMnation masses and newcomers alike, I thank you for reading. May 3rd is a holiday in our community as big as Christmas, Thanksgiving or Independence Day and in some cases even bigger. Free Comic Book Day is the one thing every geek, nerd and fanboy can point to and say, “This is good. We are one. We love comics.” Started in 2002 after a suggestion by retailer Joe Field from Concord, CA in a column in 2001 FCBD was initiated to bring new readers into independent comic shops, draw former readers back and show appreciation to the comic readers both past and present. It was a resounding success. It has grown every year. The premise is simple – give away free comics made just for the first Saturday in May. Then show the customer a great time and showcase the many products in hopes of strengthening the comic book community through interpersonal relationships – face to face. Read more...

JLA #3The world of comic books and the folks that publish them is funny. Not so much the Ha Ha variety of funny, more like the WTH? variety of funny. When Marvel exploded the market with their new Marvel Now concept, they published a lot of their books twice monthly. In doing so the fans of the titles either bought them twice monthly or lost out on the plot line of series arc. It is a good idea for a short period of time and it seems for now that it paid off with them pretty much dominating the comic book market. There has been some talk of late that DC tried the same thing in May. Albeit on a smaller level DC tried with a few books in hopes to jack up their sales number also. How did that turn out? You're going to need to wait for a little bit, but my point is this isn't a new practice, it has been proven to work in the past, and much like the stories they write comic book companies returns to what works time and time again. !cid_1F71D671-EA52-45D8-9C61-00FBA7FD3A50@crrstvFree Comic Book Day is a pretty big event held by comic book stores around the world and it is designed to generate interest in and celebrate the fine medium that is comics! Kids and even adults that regularly would not visit their local comics shop have a chance to be introduced and re-introduced to the industry. But what happens for those small towns that don't happen to have a comic book shop? They usually miss out. One of's favorite customers, Sheldon Gavin, happens to live in one of these small towns, a small mining community called Labrador City in Newfoundland, with two neighboring towns, Wabush and Fremont, Quebec. Sheldon gets his weekly dose of comic titles delivered directly to his door from us, but when it comes to Free Comic Book Day, comic fans in the area, and especially the kids...sadly just don't get to experience the fun. by MJ Ramirez Title leadTitle Fight: Kid’s Edition! This time around I pay homage to our own Ms. McCarty and take a look at the new My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series put out by IDW. My littles have been asking me to review it for awhile and I could resist no more. “What to put it up against?” I ask myself. Looking at the writer for the MLP comic, Katie Cook, I was quickly reminded of all the great Adventure Time illustrations she’s produced and then picking the challenger was a snap. Ladies and Gents I give you MLP: FIM #4 vs. Adventure Time #13. Can the long-standing favorite keep the mojo going or will the First-time pull off the impossible? Read on! Annnnd What’s New With You? As always you can find these titles and so much more including toys, posters, and apparel – all comics – all the time only at! Read more...

MJ | I enjoyed reading all ages comics last week so much that I had to do it again! I take a look at Kaboom! again, this week it's their Adventure Time #5. “What to put it up against?” I asked myself. “Why not put the new kids against the old favorites, Archie and the Gang?" And the next great Title Fight was born. Do the wacky shenanigans of a boy and his magical dog stand a snowball’s chance against the crew that brought us the song “Sugar, Sugar”? Let’s do this thing! MJ | This week I go for the gusto with two scorching titles in the FIGHT! The contenders: from the hit TV show ADVENTURE TIME comes the crossplaying swashbuckling of FIONNA AND CAKE #1 versus the Ladies of the night taking out the trash in BIRDS OF PREY #15. It looks like your top-notch David and Goliath tale of the tape but will the upstart have what it takes to bring it to the scorching number from DC? Let’s get down to business! Annnnd What’s New With You? As always you can find these titles and so much more including toys, posters, and apparel – all comics – all the time only at! Read more...
