Another Challenge For The Green Hornet! I always loved hearing the announcer intone those words in as dramatic a way as possible. There was a sense of URGENCY behind those words! It always got you excited for what was coming up next! The Green Hornet character was created in 1936 by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker Radio Director James Jewell also provided input into the new character. Therefore, this year we celebrate TWO anniversaries for he Green Hornet! 2016 marks both the 80th anniversary of the creation of the character, but also the 50th anniversary of the famous 1966 green Hornet TV Series starring Van Williams as The Green Hornet, and Bruce Lee as the Green Hornet's aide-de-camp Kato! As of September 8th 2016, the sci-fi show Star Trek celebrated its 50th anniversary! Captain Kirk, "Bones" McCoy and especially Mr. Spock are familiar figures even to people who do not like science fiction, nor have even seen a single episode of the show. I was one of those poor unfortunates for all of my childhood and much of my adult life (it is not my fault. Star Trek, for some unfathomable reason, was never shown in my area. The show was one of three classic TV series that I NEVER saw an episode of until I was an adult). Read more...

2016 is sure looking to be a big year year for one of America's most famous sci-fi media properties. First, IDW Publishing ran a four-part storyline in its ongoing Star Trek comic book series, exapanding on the history of Spock's prime reality version after the events in 2009's Star Trek movie. Then it started a two-parter in the same series featuring an encounter between the two alternate reality versions of the NCC-1701 crew. Meanwhile, IDW is getting ready to release comic book series Star Trek: New Visions' adaptation of the first Star trek television episode ever filmed (Star Trek - The Original Series' first pilot episode "The Cage" that is) as well as having already announced the coming of Star Trek: Waypoint, a comic book miniseries celebrating the various eras of the Star Trek universe. And let's not forget about Star Trek Beyond, the 3rd installment of the Nu Star Trek film series (and the 13th canonical Star Trek movie produced so far), coming to movie theaters this month with CBS Studios (co-owner of the Star Trek franchise) currently in the process of making the upcoming 2017 CBS All Access Star Trek webseries. Day to Marvel Now there have been elevator successes and failures as well as a yo-yo industry Since I was little, when I first started reading magazines about comics and letters to the editor the industry has always towed the same line when changing things up or making giant moves like a reboot or a renumbering. It seems that the entire point of comics is to, “give new readers a jumping on point while still delivering the same wonderful characters the longtime fans have come to love.” Read more...

Last week, I paid homage to the people whom have passed during the year 2015. This then, is part two of my effort to honor those people who gave us, the fans, so much entertainment and fun. And without further adieu, I respectfully start the list noting the passing of Yvonne Craig! Craig, who was born on May 16th, 1937 passed away on August 17th, 2015. Craig is famous for her role as Batgirl on the Batman TV Series. Most fan will also recall her role as "Mart" the green skinned alien of Star Trek fame ! This was on the "Whom Gods Destroy" episode. Craig also appeared in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. show, and in the movie "Gidget " in 1959, and in two movies with Elvis Presley called: "It Happened At The World's Fair" from 1963, and in 1964's "Kissin' Cousins!" This is my last column of the year. As such, I have decided to take a look back, and give one final goodbye to the people that we lost in the preceding twelve months . These are people that entertained us, made us laugh, cry, and made us feel as if we knew them. Some of these people I have written tributes for, and some I did not (time is a huge factor in writing a weekly column). Read more...
