I’ve been wanting to do this column for weeks now, and in that amount of time some interesting developments have happened to the solo Batman movie in development starring Ben Affleck. Affleck first dropped out of being the director of the film allegedly because he didn’t think he could handle starring AND directing...which sounds pretty simple. Then Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves was apparently being courted for the job, then some rumors of Affleck being (ALREADY?) tired of being The Bat sprouted around the internet....and now apparently the Reeves thing has fallen apart. The movie could very well be in limbo at this point. Read more...

Well, it’s Valentine’s Day (or Valentine’s week or month for some...why have bounderies?), the time when lovers love and secret admirers let their feelings be known! And single people? Well, I guess they all deal with this day differently! The most important thing, whether you believe in celebrating V-Day or not, is that you appreciate your special someone all year around! And for those of us bleeding hearts that bleed comics as well, we get our #relationshipgoals from our heroes and their perfect/not-so perfect relationships! So, I figured what better way to toot St. Valentine’s horn by firing up the ‘ol Listmaster 5000 machine and do one of my old fashioned lists! This time it’s comics’ Top 10 Power Couples! Some are superheroes with non-superheroes, and some of them are both supers...but all of these sweethearts showed us that their true powers are their love for each other (awwww)! Read more...

So a few weeks back I made a list of the Greatest Marvel Cartoons Of All Time, and it was so fun and popular I thought I would give it a shot for the other team, DC Comics. And let’s be honest, this is going to be the most difficult list to put together!! Read more...

Greg Land was probably one of the first mainstream Marvel/DC comic pros that I’ve ever met. Back in the early 2000’s as I journeyed with my buddy and my brother to Chicago for their Wizard World convention, he was one of the first professional artists that I had the courage to go up to and meet. At the time he had gained notoriety for an impressive run on Nightwing (seriously, look that stuff up, it is still my favorite stuff of his career, and when you learn in this interview what he was going through at that time you will have even MORE respect for it) and was just about to jump onto an upstart publisher by the name of CrossGen (way before Marvel bought the company and all of its properties). While Disney may have seemed to have conquered the box office so far this year, there can be little doubt DC/WB owns the family home video market. With Justice League vs. Teen Titans already released and Killing Joke on the way, there is a current reason to rejoice.  I break it down spoiler free below. I borrowed the synopsis from iMDB, so if you need total spoiler freedom, don’t read it. Read more...

Well, whether you loved it, hated it or just thought it was okay, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice made its mark at the box office and drew in record numbers worldwide. And it’s confirmed that now Ben Affleck (the guy in the bat-suit, in case you didn’t know) and DC big shot writer Geoff Johns will be writing the screenplay for a solo film starring Affleck’s Batman. But with so many Batman films in the past, what could they possibly do with the caped crusader that already hasn’t been done?! Read more...

September 27th was Batman Day, a day where every year generations of fans of the Caped Crusader celebrate the awesome pop culture icon. Just what is it about The Bat that has made him the most popular superhero of all time? Is it the badass costume? The fighting skills? Those “wonderful toys”? Maybe it’s his super intelligence or detective skills? Well, it’s ALL of those things, really. But I think most of all, it’s the relatable nature that the character exudes. Without any real powers, Batman is pretty much a normal person. Read more...

When I reviewed Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts a few months ago (late to the series) there were some things I knew about the franchise and some things I didn’t. What I did know is that while the larger hyped and bigger eyeballed Justice League line (or the official DCAU as it stands Gods and Monsters, Throne of Atlantis and the upcoming Killing Joke) got gritty and dark and even pulled away from the classic interpretations of the Icons that are the Trinity entirely, (Affectionately known as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman for those not in the know.) This new line of video storytelling was in fact, up to something grand. Special. What I didn’t know exactly was where this line came from originally. It is a toy line of ghastly costumes and accessories like Bobsled Batman in a blue camo suit (shudder). Read more...
