While Disney may have seemed to have conquered the box office so far this year, there can be little doubt DC/WB owns the family home video market. With Justice League vs. Teen Titans already released and Killing Joke on the way, there is a current reason to rejoice.  I break it down spoiler free below. I borrowed the synopsis from iMDB, so if you need total spoiler freedom, don’t read it. Read more...

Okay, this one is going to be tough. Because...basically, EVERYONE is pretty good at martial arts in comic books, right? I mean, she’s been holding back, but I’m pretty sure even Aunt May can bust out some wicked crane kicks if she needed to! So, let’s get this straight...EVERYONE’S opinion will be different when it comes to who is the best martial artist in mainstream comics. It’s really all relative. Nobody’s right and nobody’s wrong here. So, what I’m saying is, if you disagree, I’m sorry and not all that sorry...this is my opinion, and everyone’s allowed to have one! Read more...

There are many iconic images that stretch back through Batman lore and we each have our own favourite pieces. For some, it could be the Dark Knight illuminated by a lightning bolt from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. For others, it could be the Joker wielding his Joker Fish from Detective Comics #475, Catwoman and Batman embracing in Hush, and some may cite the Bat Armour from the epic Night of the Owls. For me though, the full page spread of Batman broken across Bane’s immense knee is one of the most evocative and ultimately chilling images in all of the Caped Crusader’s adventures. Read more...

76058-158300-mary-jane_superSo, here we are! I’ve let you wait an ENTIRE week and it’s finally here! Part 2 of my ultra-super list of the single panels that speak a thousand words! The entries #20 to 11 had so many classic panels from Superman getting kissed in the face to getting punched in it! And from Cyclops killing the man who pretty much raised him to Wolverine getting ripped in two! Can you believe there are ten more that are even better than that?! If you missed Part 1 or need a refresher, here it is. Notice that Part 1 contained absolutely ZERO panels from Spider-Man comics? That’s weird! Read more...

mk1Marc Spector has courted a mixed audience of those who loved him, those who hated him and those who just didn’t get him. Moon Knight has dipped in and out of popularity but has always been one of the more brutal superheroes (much more fitting of the MAX brand that suited Frank Castle so well) whose vigilantism has danced dangerously closely to transforming him into the villain. Part of this is due to his dissociative identity disorder which is a pivotal and intriguing aspect of the character. To help him deal with the consequences of his actions – believing he is an agent of vengeance for the ancient Egyptian god, Khonshu (whether this is yet another aspect of his personality is another interesting dynamic) – he has three alter-egos which he inhabits to confront the many traumas he faces through fighting crime and dealing with his personal life. Another character that has also recently undergone an identity crisis is everyone’s favorite Venom-enhanced wrecking machine, Bane. The force of nature that is the man who broke the Bat has assumed the role of Gotham’s protector following the events of Arkham War. Using the Talons as his own flock of Robins, Bane also seeks to wrest control of the city using the only method he knows – extreme violence and brutality. But now Batman is back. And he far from agrees with his newfound aide’s methods...   Read more...

“It's all well and good painting a montage of characters, or a portrait of a famous person, but if I can tell a story with it then I'll paint it.”   sm9   We’d be lying hear at eXpert Comics if we didn’t all admit to being science fiction and fantasy nerds – it comes with the territory! Of course, this fandom isn’t strictly restricted to comic books; movies, TV, theatre – if it involves the weird, the amazing or the bizarre, chances are you’ll find us there. sm5A lot of this started at an early age and many of us can remember growing up in the sixties, seventies and eighties in the Golden Age of Science Fiction in the cinema and on TV. This was the era of Star Wars, Alien, Knight Rider, Airwolf and the Batman TV show. There was something about them that brought out the best in us and made us believe in talking cars, galaxies far, far away and a Caped Crusader patrolling the streets of Gotham with his young ward (Burt Ward to be precise). I was fortunate enough to meet Solly Mohamed at Geeks Unleashed and was able to take a look at some of his truly outstanding artwork. In each piece, I was transported back to my childhood – there was such an awesome feeling of nostalgia and wonder. It was like being eight years old again! But what Solly really did was to capture the feeling and spirit of the show within each of his pieces. But don’t take my word for it – here’s the man himself! Read more...

Usagi_linkIt’s the one weekend of the year when the cutest, fuzziest animal of them all, the BUNNY takes center stage! I’m talking Easter, of course! And whether you celebrate Easter or Passover, or neither...everyone can agree...bunnies are darn adorable, right? So, I decided why not do something wacky and talk about the bunnies that have been in various comics over the years?! There’s more than you think, so hear me out. So, let’s put on our best bunny ears and cotton tails (ladies, you are welcome to send me your pics of that) and get ready for what may be the strangest Bleed of them all! Read more...
