Billionaire playboy Oliver Queen lived a life of selfish, carefree excess until the day his yacht sank and he was marooned on a hostile island. Forced to re-evaluate his life, his principles and motivations, Oliver returned to Star City as Green Arrow; an expert archer and skilled hunter whose life had been irrevocably changed since he had been stranded and left for dead.
Green Arrow was created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp. His first appearance was in More Fun Comics #73 in 1941. Modelled on the classical hero Robin Hood with more than a nod to Errol Flynn, Green Arrow has a host of gadgetry and trick arrows at his disposal that aide him in the fight against crime.
Seeming to linger in the shadow of the other DC cast members, it wasn't until the late sixties that Green Arrow was given the chance to shine. Teamed-up with fellow Justice Leaguer, Green Lantern, Neal Adams and Dennis O'Neil tackled socially relevant issues with Green Arrow often playing the part of the 'everyman'. This gave the character a darker shift in tone and helped forge a greater following that continues to this day
